Child Therapy FAQs
-
If your child is struggling with anxiety, big emotions, frequent meltdowns, or difficulty focusing, therapy can help them develop coping skills and emotional awareness. Parents often reach out when they notice changes in mood, social behavior, or school performance. Our intake coordinator can help you determine whether therapy is the right next step and what type of support would fit best.
-
Child therapy sessions are designed to feel comfortable and engaging. We use talk therapy, play-based techniques, and creative activities to help kids express themselves and learn new skills. Depending on your child’s needs, therapists may incorporate techniques from CBT, DBT, or mindfulness to support emotional regulation, problem-solving, and confidence building.
-
Yes. Parent involvement is an important part of child therapy. We do a full intake with just parents prior to the initial intake session with your child. After the intake sessions, we’ll keep you informed about your child’s progress, share strategies you can use at home, and work together to strengthen communication and consistency between sessions.
-
Absolutely. At Collaborative Minds Psychotherapy, we believe children make the most progress when the adults in their world are on the same page. With your consent, we’re happy to coordinate care with teachers, school counselors, psychiatrists, pediatricians, or other providers involved in your child’s wellbeing. Our collaborative approach ensures your child receives consistent, supportive care across all environments.
