Teen Therapy FAQs
-
Therapy can help if your teen feels anxious, isolated, or unsure of who they are. It is also helpful for teens who struggle with friendships, emotional regulation, or school stress. Many teens benefit when they feel “different” or misunderstood because of ADHD, autism, or other forms of neurodivergence. Our therapists help teens explore what makes them unique and develop tools to handle challenges with confidence and self-acceptance. Our intake coordinator can help you determine whether therapy is the right next step and what type of support would fit best.
-
Sessions are designed to feel safe and genuine so your teen can be themselves without fear of judgment. We use evidence-based approaches such as DBT, CBT, and neurodiversity-affirming therapy to support emotional regulation, communication, and social skills. Therapy may involve problem-solving, exploring identity, or learning strategies to manage overwhelm and connect more effectively with others.

Yes. We do a full intake with just parents prior to the initial intake session with your teen. After the initial intake session, the level of parent involvement depends on your teen’s age, goals, and comfort level. We aim to balance privacy and collaboration so teens can speak openly while parents stay informed about overall themes and progress. Our goal is to help families communicate more effectively and support one another between sessions.

Absolutely. At Collaborative Minds Psychotherapy, we believe teens make the most progress when the adults in their world are on the same page. With your consent, we’re happy to coordinate care with teachers, school counselors, psychiatrists, pediatricians, or other providers involved in your teen’s wellbeing. Our collaborative approach ensures your teen receives consistent, supportive care across all environments.
